Before starting the Innovation Academy, we were told that we would be working on an Independent Project throughout the year. A ton of different thoughts came into my mind about what I would do, how would I pull it off, and I just decided that I would choose when I started in August.
August came along, and I still had no idea what I wanted to do for my project. I had an idea about doing an architectural design, but I thought to myself: Do I really want to dedicate one year of my life to this? I realized that the interest was just temporary, and that if I started working on it, I would get bored and start to do it without actually wanting to, but because I had to finish it, so I decided to discard that idea.
I went home that day and talked to my mom about my problem. She decided to help me think about topics and ideas that I could do, but none of her ideas called my attention. Not until she mentioned the script I had written during the summer. I started to think about it, and realized that she had a point. I really enjoyed the process and I always looked for feedback naturally, without anyone telling me to. So I started analysing the idea with my mom.
I analysed the pros and cons of the idea, and realised that I would really like to pursue with this project. So I decided. I am going to write a play. So I started to do what any person would do if they decided to write a play, decide the topic, and I realized that it was harder than before. Now that I have a real purpose, the desire to want to choose the perfect theme was so bad, that I spent one hour and a half on deciding the theme, and didn't accomplish it.
I talked to Ms. Baertl about this and she told me that I should write about something that I have experience on, something that I really know about. I thought to myself, what does that mean? Then I understood, my theme, my plot, has to be something that I truly believe in, not just whatever theme I find somewhat interesting. So, that´s my next step, find my perfect plot.
And what about you? You, who is reading this. What is something you truly believe in? I encourage you to get up and find it. Find your perfect plot.
