First of all, I want to make sure you understand what shows are considered to be Trash TV in Lima. “Esto es Guerra”, “Combate” and other different reality shows. Many people consider these shows to be offensive, disturbing and annoying.
Honestly, I believe that the games and competitions in these shows are fun and entertaining. What really bothers me, is all the drama and fake relationships that are created by the directors in order to make the show more “interesting”. They create fake rumors like: “This person hates this person” or “This person said he/she wants to date this person”, and sometimes even make it the main focus of the show. I mean, they even showed a childbirth in live TV just because the child being born was product of a relationship created in the show. How crazy is that? Not to mention, the people that actually appear in the show, make thousands of dollars, while people with real jobs sometimes struggle economically. In the meantime, the actors in the show are living the “high life”, and they are becoming models to the young people who watch them.
The message that these shows are portraying to the young audience is completely wrong. Young people are thinking stuff like “If I go on TV and I'm superficial I will be successful.” These programs promote fakeness and superficiality. People in these shows appear to be happy with the life they have, but it's all scripted. What I'm trying to say is that young people are looking up to these people as role models to follow, and this is wrong. They should be focusing on enjoying life and knowing themselves by being authentic, and programs like these ones stifle this.
